A Bulgarian operatic bass, particularly associated with the Italian and Russian repertories. During his career, which lasted more than 50 years, he performed more than 70 roles, including the role of Pimen in Modest Mussorgsky's Boris Godunov, thanks to which he received international recognition in 1963. In 1962, he was awarded a gold medal at the Helsinki International Youth Festival, and the following year he won first prize and a gold medal at the II International Competition of Young Opera Singers in Sofia for his role as Philip II in Don Carlos. In 1963, he made his international debut in Barcelona, followed by a tour of Western Europe with the Sofia Opera Ensemble. In 1966, he performed with great success at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. He has performed at the Berlin State Opera, La Scala in Milan, the Vienna State Opera and Covent Garden in London. In 1968, he achieved great success on the stage of the Reggio Theater in Parma with the role of Attila from Verdi's opera of the same name.
