Swedish violinist and conductor of Hungarian origin. Studied as a violinist with Henri Marteau, worked in orchestras in Sweden. In 1942-1953 he was the chief conductor of the Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1952-1958 — of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, in 1959-1971 — of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, at the same time in 1965-1980 he headed the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra. He recorded with the Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra the First and Seventh Symphonies of Jan Sibelius, as well as a suite from Dmitry Shostakovich's opera Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, works by various Scandinavian composers, etc.
