Swiss pianist and conductor of classical repertoire, piano teacher. He is widely revered as one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, especially in the performance of German music, traditionally represented by the names of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert. In 1932, he formed his own chamber orchestra and became one of the pioneers of authentic performance of Baroque music.
