Portuguese musician and canon. He was ordained a priest in 1939 and appointed Canon of the See of Braga in 1966. He graduated from the Pontifical Institute of Sacred Music in Rome with a degree in Gregorian chant in 1942. He also obtained the title of conductor in composition at the National Conservatory of Lisbon. He composed sacred, piano and symphony music, in a total of more than 550 compositions (between original works and arrangements). His best-known work is the Av of Fatima. Between 1976 and 1981 he hosted on Radio Renascença the weekly program "ao encontro da grande musica".
