12/03/1874, Vienna, Austria - 04/10/1949, same place
Austrian composer of Neo-Vienna operettas. After graduating from the Vienna Conservatory with honors, he taught piano for a while. Since 1901 he worked as a kapellmeister. At the same time he composed chamber music and piano pieces. In 1902, Eisler wrote the music for the opera "The Witch's Mirror" (Der Hexenspiegel), but the directorate of the Vienna Opera refused to accept the opera, saying that the music was "too simple". Then Eisler turned the opera into an operetta "Bruder Straubinger", and in 1903 it was an enchanting success. The main role was played by the favorite of the Viennese public, Alexander Girardi. The song "It's not a sin to kiss" (Küssen ist keine Sünd') from this operetta has gained worldwide fame.
