DUBOIS Leon (D-56)

Belgian conductor, composer and music teacher. He studied at the Brussels Conservatory with Alphonse Mailly (organ) and Joseph Dupont (composition). In 1889 he began working as an opera conductor in Nantes, where he staged, among other things, his one-act comic opera "The Triumph of Sganarelle" (fr. La Revanche de Sganarelle), in 1890 he returned to Belgium to work at the Brussels Opera House La Monnaie, in 1891 he conducted the opera in Liege, then in 1892-1897 back in La Monnaie. In 1899-1912 he directed a music school in Leuven. In 1912-1925 — Director of the Brussels Conservatory. Among the most significant works of Dubois are the ballet "Death" (fr. Le Mort; 1884, by Camille Lemonnier) and the opera "Edénie" (fr. Edénie; 1912, libretto also by Lemonnier).
