Dutch musician. Under Bernhard Molique and Henri Vieuxtemps, Coenen trained as a violin virtuoso and made a concert tour to America with Henri Herz . Coenen was highly regarded as a musician in his home country, belonged to the board of Maatschappij tot Bevordering der Toonkunst (Society for the Promotion of Music), was a teacher at the Amsterdam Conservatory of Music and formed an excellent string quartet . In 1895 he retired from public office. He was also a renowned composer (symphonies , cantatas and quartets).
