Dutch conductor. From 1957 he was assistant conductor with the Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam under chief conductor Eduard van Beinum. In 1958 he was appointed 2nd conductor. His employment ended in 1960 when he was appointed permanent conductor and artistic director of the Overijssels Philharmonic Orchestra. Brussen was the conductor of the Netherlands Student Orchestra (NSO) for twenty seasons, from 1954 to 1973. Until 1960 he also conducted the Philips Orkest Vereniging in Eindhoven
